Only those new to COAR are new to Father Ken. He was the founder and guiding administrator of COAR for the first 20 years. He sought out the orphans of the refugee camps, established funding channels in the U.S., and brought COAR much needed international publicity – bringing both funds and protection. But he did it all for the love of the children. Father Ken died, unexpectedly, in his sleep in March 2002. However, his family carries on his legacy.
Father Ken’s father was one of 10 children of Aloys and Anna Myers of rural Huron, Ohio. The extended family had a reunion in July and raised over $5,000 for COAR in memory of Aloys and Anna. Six members of the family were able to travel to COAR for the August 15th celebration and receive the thanks of the community.
Many of the hundreds of alumni who attended the festivities sought out the Cleveland/Myers delegation to relate the debt they owed to Fr. Ken and COAR and all those who supported it.
